What Does this colonoscopy Result Mean?

Today my husband had a colonoscopy at Duke. His discharge reported noted: A single small angioectasia was found in the descending colon. I am having a difficult time finding information about an angioectasia in the colon. It seems that most of the information on the web is about angioectasias in the small intestine. Can you help me with this? Many thanks!

Radiologist 's  Response
Hello,

An angioectasia is an abnormally dilated vein.
Angioectasias in the small intestine and in the colon are the same problem but at different locations. The main difference in location is if these blood vessels bleed, in the descending colon, it may appear as fresh blood in his stool.

It is good that it is small, but it can still be a source of bleeding. If he notices fresh blood in his stool, it is likely the source of the bleeding.

All the best.
